This half-term we are doing some exciting learning all about India as a part of our topic of Globetrotters. We are continuing to learn all about India and make comparisons to the United Kingdom and Basingstoke. In English this half term we will be writing postcards imagining that we are travelling in India. We are also writing letters, exploring poetry, looking at adverts and writing our narratives.

On the 9th November we went on a trip to Vue Cinema to watch Tad the Lost Explorer. It was lots of fun! While we were walking there and back we looked at the different types of homes in Basingstoke and took photographs. We will be using these photo's later in the half term to compare them to the types of homes which can be found in India. We also looked out for litter and took photos as we will be using this to support our letter writing.

Linking into our topic of India as a part of our design and technology we will be tasting, and cooking our own naan bread. We look forward to posting some pictures once we have made them. We also look forward to taking part in some Christmas arts and crafts.

For RE we have been learning all about candlelight and the Hindu festival of Diwali which took place on Wednesday 7th November. Later in the term we will be learning about how the ways in which candlelight is used during the Christian celebration of Advent.

In science we have planned a longitudinal study where we have planted some items in the ground. We thought carefully as a year group about what we might bury and made predictions as to what we think will happen to the items over the course of the year. We plan to dig them up in the summer term and see if your predictions were correct. This half term we will also be learning about the habitats of plants and animals, understanding the different variations which these animals have made over time and the way that they have adapted to their environment.

We have also been visited by Sam this half term who gave us a workshop in Skateboarding and we are looking forward to a visit from Open the Box for a workshop on India later in the term and again for a performance from them in December.

For more information as to when we will be doing all of this exciting learning please look at our Medium Term Plan which can be found below.
