Welcome to our Governors’ section.

 

The Governing Body is a group of volunteers, made up of parents, school staff and members of the local community, who bring varied skills and experience to support the leadership of the school. 
 
We work in partnership with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), to whom we delegate the day-to-day running of the school. We are responsible for ensuring that the school provides the best possible education for all of the children in our care. Our role is strategic and focuses on raising standards. Our three core functions are:
 
1. To ensure the school has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction.
2. To provide challenge and support to the SLT and hold the Headteacher to account for the achievement of the children, and the performance management of the staff.
3. To oversee the financial performance of the school & ensure its money is well spent.
 
To fulfill our functions we make decisions together on matters such as performance, targets, and school priorities, which are outlined in the School Development Plan. We input to and ratify school policies, agree & monitor the school budget, and oversee the staffing structure. 
 
We come into school to carry out regular monitoring visits. ‘Focus Visits’ are a good way of helping us to understand how the school supports children’s learning. We target a particular area from the School Development Plan and talk to the children, look at their books and the work on display around the school and in the classroom. We also try hard to play an active part in everyday school life, by finding time to support school activities and events, and celebrating in the success of the children. So you and the children should see us around and about at school
