Nursery Day

Times of the Nursery Day

Our nursery class accommodates children from the term after they turn 2 if they are entitled 2 year old funding. For those of you who do not receive 2 year old funding we take children from the term after their third birthday.

Please contact the school office for an application form.

The following sessions are available:

  • 09:00-12:00
  • 12:00-15:00
  • 09:00-15:00

In our Nursery we encourage children to be as independent as possible. This includes being responsible for hanging their own property on their pegs and putting their lunch boxes and water bottles in the correct place.

Our day comprises of Discovery Time when children can make their own choices about their play. This gives the children ample opportunity to think for themselves and to focus on areas that really interest them. It also allows the children to interact with each other, to share and to take turns. The adults work with the children during these times, encouraging, making suggestions, and talking about their play.

There are specific adult led activities that the children are asked to join, usually in small groups. This allows the adults to teach the children directly. These run alongside Discovery Time.
We have whole group times, usually at the beginning and at the of a session. This is where we all come together to learn, to sing songs, or to join in with a physical activity, like a dance.

If the children are here for lunch we eat in the hall with all the other children in the school. We also use the hall for PE sessions and visit the library to choose books, which we can take home to share. The children have access to the main playground, where they can use the new bikes and the climbing frame.
