YEAR 2 TRIP TO ST MICHAEL'S CHURCH, BASINGSTOKE
Miss Bamsey and Mr Innes took their Year Two classes on a really informative trip to see St Michael's Church, on Monday 28th September, 2009. This trip is a regular one for our Year Two children as part of their work on RE. St Michael's is one of the most ancient churches in Britain and there has been a church on the present site for almost 1000 years. The Curate of St Michael's, Rev Quayle, showed the children round the church and pointed out the different artefacts, explaining how they have become part of the Church's history and how they are used in acts of worship. The children also had the chance to enact a Christening at the altar, with children playing the role of parents and godparents. All the Year Two children behaved extraordinarily well on the walk to and from the church and understood the need to be respectful of the church and its environs. We are very proud of them all! Among the comments children made about the trip were: "We saw the model of the eagle where they do the readings and we did paintings of it". "The stained glass windows were lovely! During the war all the windows got broken except the one at the back on the right which is still there. When the windows broke, all the people collected up the broken bits and made a new window with a pattern of children". "Miss Bamsey and Mr Innes rang the bell and so did we!" Miss Bamsey and Mr Innes did have a go at 'campanology' and if you look carefully at our photographs, you might see them! |
