BOOK WEEK 5th - 9th October 2009Each year we celebrate Book Week in school and the children take part in lots of activities focussing on books and a love of reading. We started off this year's Book Week as we do every year, with the children coming to school dressed as characters from books, ready to take part in a special costume parade which parents are always invited to attend. Despite the showers, we all bravely assembled in the playground under the care of Mary Poppins (Mrs Perry in disguise!) to admire the wonderful array of costumes worn by our staff and children. As always we are so grateful to all our parents for going to such great lengths to ensure the parade reflected a wide range of literary characters from both classic literature - Peter Pan for example - and contemporary children's books such as Captain Underpants! We hope you enjoy our photographs!
During Book Week, the children have been reading lots of different books and poems in class and were delighted to be entertained by storytellers from the Library Service, who regaled them with stories in costume! We also welcomed one of the Library storytellers to a special morning assembly at which books and stories and the excitement of reading was conveyed to all our children. We look forward to seeing some of the parents of our second-language children who have been invited to come in and read a story in their home language and hope all your children have enjoyed the many books and special stories the teachers have shared with them at the end of each school day. |
