YEAR 1 TRIP TO HILLIER GARDENS AND ARBORETUM, ROMSEY

Mrs Gaitskell, Mrs Sinclair and Miss Reneaux took the Year One children on a trip by coach down to The Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Romsey on Monday 28th September 2009. All the Year One classes went as part of this year's class work in both Art and Science, and the children were particularly looking forward to seeing the Art in the Garden exhibition, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The outdoor sculptures entranced them all and paved the way for them to continue exploring the gardens and enjoying all the open space. They ate lunch 'al fresco' and had great fun making plasticine impressions of tree bark, playing and exploring the five senses on the Sensory Trail. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day as you will see from the photos, and it's proved very valuable too as the children are now working hard back in the classroom on projects linking Art and Science, putting their practical knowledge and experience to good use. Among the comments they have made about the trip were:

"It was exciting because we've never seen sculptures before. I didn't even know what they were!"

"We saw a sculpture of a horse and some peacocks and they had shiny mirrors on even though they were outside."

"It was so good, I got really excited especially when we played with plasticine and pressed it on to the trees to see what patterns it would make"

All the children behaved beautifully and of course our grateful thanks go to the parents who came along to help supervise the children.
